Learn to Read: Match sounds to letters

Foundational Reading Program

Our comprehensive program covers the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Interactive lessons begin by guiding children to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds. In time your little learner will master 44 phonemes—every sound in the English language—and use them in phonics to unlock words.

Correct Sound Modeling

Brilliantly animated characters expose your child to the correct pronunciation of each phoneme. As children build their knowledge of phonemes, they are able to blend the sounds together to form words.

Focus on Blending of Sounds

Children follow a carefully crafted progression as they learn new sounds. First the letters are sounded out individually, then blended together. Each time a sound is taught, your child will use it to build new words. We give special attention to tricky middle and ending sounds.

Practice and Review

As each letter sound is introduced, it is repeated, reviewed, and revisited. This ensures a solid foundation and clear understanding of the phonemes. Exciting interactive games and beautifully illustrated stories are paired with each lesson to support the new knowledge your child is building.

“Now, when people ask me for a reading app for young kids, this will be my recommendation. It’s not magic; it won’t make it so your kid can skip kindergarten–after all, school is about a lot more than just language arts skills. But Learn With Homer is a great way to start working on reading with your kid, or to reinforce what he or she is already learning in school. ”

“Learn with Homer is an outstanding way to get kids excited... In addition to the excellent systematic phonics lessons here, there's lots of interesting content about things like frogs and world music, fiction, poetry, songs, and a free-drawing feature, so even kids who aren't quite ready to read or haven't been bitten yet by the love-of-reading bug can find something fun.”

—Dana Villamagna, Common Sense Media

“It’s tough to create an engaging, gamified product experience, while prioritizing the learning experience in a way that doesn’t cheapen either side and maintains the balance. Learn With Homer does both, and the design is actually stunning. You don’t have to play with this for long before realizing how much parents are going to love this.”

—Rip Empson, TechCrunch

“Learn With Homer is a fantastic app for teaching foundational reading skills to children. If you're looking to prepare your youngsters for the rigor of the Common Core Learning Standards, this is a must-have app!”
